The #1 topic in all of Metaldom is the new Metallica album. "72 Seasons" dropped late last week. And just like the last umpteenth albums from Lars and the Boys, the album has proven to be very divisive. But regardless of where you plant your flag with Camp Metallica, they always make for great conversation. This time out, we both lucked out and our local record shops had album listening parties and we bought the vinyl at the stroke of midnight. So we give the album the once over and rank the album amongst the rest of their vast catalog. In our "News, Views and Tunes", we hit the movie theatres and celebrate Halloween In April (!!). RAM is no stranger to the idea of the "house show". We've littered our "Metal Fix" with our experiences. But for the uninitiated, a house show is just as it sounds. A gig in someone's house, generally the basement, as opposed to a club or small hall. And they're always a lot of fun! We have another one coming up (on 4/20 even!!) So we figured it would be a great time to share some of our ideas of putting on house shows in some more public and pop culture houses and buildings. Think the Amityville Horror house. The Grammys are in our rearview mirror. Here in the Great White North, that means it's time for the Canadian equivalent, The Junos. Of course, the only category that means anything to Metalheads is the "Hard Rock/Metal Album". And as is tradition around here, it's time to play the newly christened "Head or Heart" game. A segment where we share who we'd like to see win. As well, we pick who we think will win. So with Aaron on a short sabbatical, we've enlisted the help of Snowy's "Wrestling Night In Canada" co-hosts Matt Copper and Dustin Maruca. And the winner is... "Support The Scene!" isn't just an old adage or a tired cliche'. Local Metal/Punk scenes aren't just a source of weekend entertainment. The "scene" is an important breeding ground for young talent to get their chops in before moving on to bigger ("better" will always be subjective). And it's a great source of weekend entertainment. But the scene needs to thrive to survive. So we all need to do our part. So this week we have a laundry list of Dos and Don'ts everyone should employ for the betterment of the scene.
