It's that time again! The Juno Awards are fast approaching May 15th in Toronto. The Junos are Canada's equivalent to the grammys in the US. Realistically, the only award Metalheads care aboot is the "HR/HM Album Of The Year" Award. Regardless of who brings home the gold though, the winners will be our listeners. As is tradition around here, we go over our picks and predictions with our "Will and Should" segment. Namely, who SHOULD win. And/but who WILL win. We're stoked for all the nominees! In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we give the Horns to Seasons Of Mist for waving their potion of sales for their roster from Ukraine. On the surface, the question "What is Metal?" might seem a bit "Huh?" But the idea of exactly what Metal is can be as diverse as our beloved genre itself. Of course when thinking of Metal we think of the driving beats of the skins, the face melting riffs, the thunderous bass and the thought provoking (or just entertaining) lyrics. So America just had their big annual sportsball extravaganza - The Super Bowl. Did your team win? Do you care either way? The half time show seems to capture the attention of fans just as much as the big game. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to cater to the Metalheads/Punks. But dare to dream. Now obviously the Dying Fetus' and Pig Destroyers of the world won't be playing the half time show anytime soon. But there are a number of HR/HM bands that are household names enough to represent our beloved genre. So we dove into our choices. Traditionally we dedicate this episode to our annual Valentine's Day Massacre. But being minus any female co-hostesses this year, we just weren't feeling it this year. We still want to do something to celebrate this special day though. It's safe to say that everyone in their youth goes through that whole "crush" phase. Those special artists that we had those special feelings for that go beyond just enjoying the tunes. So in the spirit of VDay, we figured we'd share some our crushes from our early daze (not surprising we name two Runaways). As well, we share some stories from when we were face-to-face with some of these objects of our youthful affections. The Metal World recently lost two important figures named Johnny. Mr. Johnny "Z" Zuzula was the founder/owner of the mighty Megaforce Records. The upstart label released a number of excellent albums that helped shape us as fans of our beloved genre. We also lost actor Howard Hessemen. For our more mature listeners, Hessemen will be best known as "Doctor" Johnny Fever on the awesome "WKRP In Cincinnati" sitcom aired from '78-'82. The Doctor was a major influence on the creation of Radioactive Metal. So this week we thought it would be best to pay tribute to these Johnnies. First with discussing some of our fave Megaforce albums/songs. As well, we reminisce some of our fave episodes/moments on the mighty "...K.R.P." In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we discuss Meatloaf (RIP) and menstrual cycles(!), the whole Rogan/Young spotify thing, and the new/classic Slaughter album! Veteran listeners already know the deal. 3...2...1...Happy New Years!! Unfortunately with all that's going on it the world, there's not much going on in terms of NYE celebrations. But we didn't want to left out in the cold, literally and figuratively. So we decided we'd make recording this special episode our own New Years bash.
