If there was a penalty for exceeding a maximum amount of live gigs, we'd be doing hard time. We learned the good way that a gig can be enjoyed beyond the usual venues. Over the years we taken in shows in parking lots, sidewalks, parade floats a.o. That's not even counting the myriad of basement shows. As with most genres, the vocalist and axeman seem to be the ones that seem to garner the most attention and accolades. It's the rhythm section that stirs the Metallic drink though. And drummers are the unsung heroes of our beloved genre. So taking a cue from the awesome "High Infidelity" flick, we present our "Top 5" of our favourite skinbeaters. We look at not only technical skill and reputation but influence and impact as well. All making for an interesting list. In our "News, Views and Tunes", we took in the original "Evil Dead" film at the theatre (!) and discuss Aunt Jemima's "box"(??). We're all too familiar with "that person". That individual who insists they "know it all" regardless of the topic at hand. As Metalheads it's particularly irritating when these posers try horning in on beloved genre. But's there's always a way to trip them up. Heavy Metal is ripe with trivia that is common knowledge to us but would expose any claims-to-be. Namely, a Sabbath vocalist not named Dio or Ozzy. Or Kirk Hammett's pre Metallica band. You get the idea. In our "News, Views and Tunes" we celebrate "Ghostbuster's Day", discuss "Flesh Gordon" (!!) and fanboy out for Spider Punk. This episode is a Good News/ Bad News situation. The Good News - The "Muppet Mayhem" TV series is up on Disney+. Being veteran Gen Xers, we'll always have a soft spot in our Metal Hearts for The Muppet Show. Dr. Teeth And The Electric Mayhem were the house band for said show. And this show sees our fave band of Muppets trying to cut their long overdue debut. We tore thru the show with the eagerness of a 10 yr. old and give our 2 cents. Now The Bad News - We lost one of the all time greats in Tank's Algy Ward. Tank's influence on Metaldom cannot be disputed. So we took a few moments to say "Horns Up!" Crank some Tank tonight! Sure we're a Heavy Metal radio show but we don't shy away from discussing some of our there interests. Mat The Fourth is a special day dedicated to all things Star Wars and for fans to celebrate their fandom. Just a few days later was Free Comic Book Day.
